Avera Supports Members of the Armed Forces Through Local Organization

Avera supports deployed service members by participating in a special program to thank our troops overseas through The Blue Star Mothers of America organization.

The Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. is a nonprofit 501©3 service organization dedicated to supporting the Armed Forces and their families while promoting patriotism. The national organization formed in 1942 during WWII and was chartered by Congress in 1960. The Houston Area Chapter was organized and chartered in 2004 by a group of mothers from the Kingwood area.

The primary activity of the group is to organize and send care packages throughout the year to men and women serving in combat zones and overseas. They periodically receive supplies and donations from various companies, organizations and individuals, but the troops’ favorite donation is Girl Scout Cookies.

Avera has participated in the program for the last several years by making a donation to purchase girl scout cookies that the local Blue Star Mothers of America chapter then packages and ships to troops.
